When I first began this project, I wanted to make something bright and playful. I was inspired by the illustrations of an artist I like to make a more “cartoon-like” sculpture. After learning of Sydnie Jimenez’s (@syddd.viciouss) large figurative ceramic sculptures, I realized I also wanted it to be personal and showcase my identity, so I decided to create a body of self-portrait sculptures and functional items that highlight my bright red hair and fun piercings. I made one full-body sculpture, a bowl, and a lidded jar. I used underglazes for a large range of colors without streaking or running. I also used a clear glaze in certain areas to add texture and vibrancy.
