La Loteria: Juego de Suerte // Translation: Loteria: Game of Luck
This work was part of collaborative, duo exhibition show, Con Ojos Nublados, with the artist Natali Perea (@natali.perea on Instagram). Our work in this show speaks about the duality of our Mexican-American identities and the struggles of our community, as well as the emotional turmoil that is intrinsically linked to our mixed identity and our experiences as Mexican-Americans.
Natali’s work hopes to speak about the feeling of belonging to a community but constantly feeling displaced and underrepresented in different institutions.
My work also aims to call attention to some of the struggles that Mexican-American communities face, while simultaneously integrating recognizable pop culture elements like “La Loteria” and popular street food.
