La Loteria, Juego De Suerte
Inspired by the popular game of “La Loteria”, this work aims speaks about the duality of my Mexican-American identity and our community. I do this by not only Integrating recognizable pop culture elements like “La Loteria” and popular street food that become instantly recognizable, but also by calling attention to some of the issues that Mexican-American communities face. I hope that my work can serve as a jumping point to these important conversations.
This work was part of collaborative, duo exhibition show, Con Ojos Nublados, with the artist Natali Perea (@natali.perea on Instagram). Our work in this show speaks about the duality of our Mexican-American identities and the struggles of our community, as well as the emotional turmoil that is intrinsically linked to our mixed identity and our experiences as Mexican-Americans.
